The painters are finishing their watercolor fish and moving on to Chinese Brushstroke. I am excited about this unit because it yields such beautiful results from everybody. The students respond really well to both the technique and the subject matter. We used bamboo brushes, which the students enjoyed. It is a very simplistic, expressive and fluid way to paint, so I am encouraging them to be loose and general-to pay attention to shapes and movement. It is a great unit to follow the watercolor fish, because it uses many of the same skills. The students final paintings will be on parasol umbrellas.
