After a strong background lesson in color theory, I felt that the sixth graders were ready to start on their final painting. They are painting mythical creatures, and their paintings must include mixed colors, tints, tones, and shades. It is a good exercise for their imaginations and creativity as their mythical creature needs to be unique and well, mythical. I was surprised at how difficult it was for some students to come up with something! Everybody has sketched their creature and many have started painting. Some are close to being finished while some have hardly gotten started. Keeping the pace of 27 different kids consistent is always a challenge! Those who are close to finishing will be creating “mythical creature letters” for the art show.
