While the sixth graders’ masks are drying out and waiting to be fired, we have moved on to color theory. We will be using color theory in our next project, which is a mythical creature painting project. We will also be using it when we paint the clay masks, as well as in our colored pencil unit. It is an important thing for artists to know! The kids did a color wheel painting, and we also had a lesson on tints (adding white), tones (adding grey) and shades (adding black). I ask them to not use any color directly out of the paint jug-they should always mix it with something else. This opens up another world of color to them-now I just hope they use it!
